No training was scheduled immediately after breakfast for the first time in a long time. No meetings were scheduled, and Shipp did not even want to probe us or subject the family to a download. Sam and Rob had eaten and made some excuse to leave on business only they knew about. I was sitting with my lovely wife, Cheryl, out on the veranda, looking at the forest and meadow stretched out before us. Shipp had built this domicile for us even before we came aboard! Their new domicile on Shipp was as large as a small mansion on Earth. Three large bedrooms complete with a large bathroom facility for each bedroom, each with a shower that you could verbally command specific temps and massage settings, as your mood dictated. Huge walk-in closets and sitting rooms were also part of the bedroom décor.  There was also a desk with a computer console and a place to do research or whatever might come up. Homework was done via a download, so no one needed it for basic education! Both our children loved this aspect of our changed dynamic!

An extensive library was at the end of the hall, just off the living room, in both book and video formats. There was a hot tub on the veranda, shielded except for a spectacular view of the meadow and forests stretching out and away from their new home. The forests, brook, and meadow came complete with a sky, day, and night features on an earth timetable, and animal life, just no mosquitoes, flies, spiders, snakes, or dangerous predators. Shipp had created a vast living space just for them with holo imaging for sky and clouds! Over the years, Shipp had imported the forests, plant life, and animals from Earth. So, she had everything to make a home within her hull, a lovely place indeed! The forest even had its own AI Robotic Ranger! Kind of reminded me of Howdy Doody! I suppose that dates me somewhat! The domicile also had a large living room, an entertainment area, and a dining room with a food dispenser. All food prep was done by Shipp, or rather, an AI-controlled robotic something-or-other. Shipp still had many secrets we had not had time to ask about. As a matter of fact, none of the entertainment accessories included in the house had been used other than the hot tub. They had all been too busy, and when they were done for the day, food and bed were all anyone wanted. Early on, as muscle mass developed, Cheryl and I, the older generation, did use the tub to soothe sore muscles from the boot-camp-like training, even though we healed up very rapidly. I admit we just liked hanging out in it!  Daniel and Jane shared quarters, as technically they were related, Father and daughter for all intents and purposes! But no meadow, forest, or brook. Jane had asked for some of the same things she had seen in the Carpenter living quarters because Daniel basically had lived in a stripped-down storage bay, as all he did there was sleep and shower before all the company showed up. It now resembled more of a home, with private accommodations for Jane and, as I said, some creature comforts Daniel had never bothered with. Jane did not expect to live there much longer as she had other plans. She had asked Shipp, the entity she considered to be her mother, to arrange living quarters for her and Rob as a wedding present. Shipp was already well on her way to doing just that long before being asked; her existence and design made her unable to be unaware of things happening within her structure or in near space, for that matter. So construction had started about a week after Rob and her creation, or daughter, met!

Favorite Children’s Story

I did not have a normal childhood. I taught myself to read to understand road signs because I started driving at nine. I did not go to a full year of school until I was in the 6th grade. I hardly ever went to school at all before that year. So my reading was not the normal fare, and no one was reading to me. Around the 7th grade, I discovered Sir Walter Scott and Thomas B. Costain! I read a lot of books by both authors. Scott’s Ivanhoe was really one of my favorites. The Black Rose was also right up there by Costain. I know both have been done in the movies, but they do not come close to the books! Not really children’s stories but they made an impression on me that lasted. I came across the Count of Monte Cristo in the 8th grade, and kind of felt like I cheated when it was assigned to me as a sophomore to do as a book report! I read voraciously all through my teen years and in the Corps. I was on a plane coming back from Vietnam and other vacation spots when I discovered the Hobbit in the seat magazine holder. I was hooked on everything Hobbit after! As a youngster, I never had fairy tales to read or had them read to me, but I have now read a host of classics and a library full of science fiction and fantasy! I am currently reading the Scions of Shannara. I currently have five bookcases full of Sci-fi and fantasy, and a very large bookcase full of classics, all read. My wife made me cancel all my book subscriptions when I wanted to buy an extra Tuff Shed to store them.  She has no idea how many I have stored the Books app on my iPhone!

So, a little self-promotion is happening here. A few years back I started studying the governments and societies of nations around the world in preparation of writing a sci-fi novel I had in mind. Well after several nations had total regime changes or had revamped their government policies, I had not written a word. So one night I just thought, why not just write something down! When I looked up from the computer it was light outside and I was five chapters in! I did not use a lot of the research, it just kind of appeared like it had a mind of its own! I actually did not know what was going to happen until it did appear on the page. I think it is good, but of course, as the author, I would. My friends and relatives who have read it also think it is great, but again, friends and relatives! But I am hoping for a few customers, not for the money, I would just like to know people enjoyed it! I will not throw any money out, but royalties here are at a minimum for either book, so unless it becomes a best seller I am not going to get rich by any means!

To be honest, I was not intending to publish, I found that writing relaxed me and relieved stress. So anytime I could not sleep, I wrote. I wound up with about 850 pages. In order to publish, I had to make it fit on 670 pages, so I did after a few people harangued me about why I was not publishing it. So there is now a paperback and a Kindle or e-book version. You can download a free Kindle reader on your tablet, PC, or computer on the link to my books. I am writing a sequel, but we will get into that at a later date. So I am including links to both the paperback and the Kindle version on Amazon. There is a pop-up that will let you read some before you buy. When you get rid of that pop-up there will be prices in blue for whichever form of the book you intend to buy, if you decide to, that is.

Thank you, I will read any words of wisdom you care to provide me if you do read my novel. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it!
