I have always thought that If I could go back in time I would like to visit North America before any Europeans came. I would, especially if I had a guarantee of safety, try and learn as many native languages as I could and warn them about what was coming! Then I would attempt to get them all to work together to watch their shores. I would not want them to massacre any who showed up! Greet them with overwhelming force, inform them that they did not discover anything, this land already belongs to, and is settled by, people who do not welcome them! If my fantasy has merit, then they would be given fresh water, jerky, dried fruit, and the basics to get them back wherever they came from! Then, I would head south to warn the people who were about to come in contact with Christopher Columbus! Make sure they knew he wanted to make slaves out of them and take any and all resources they had. I am aware that Europe and the rest of the populated world, knowing there were lands and how to find them, would eventually show up with forces well-armed and still subjugate, murder, rob, and rape their way across all of the Americas! So I probably would have made it much worse than it actually was over time. However, Christopher Columbus did not discover America. He and his men actually never set foot on North American soil, only a few islands in the Bahamas! Later in our history, the pilgrims did and became a blight on what is now North America. They were responsible for women being subjugated and thought of as inferior throughout our society here in America, the supposed land of the free. It was 1974 before women could have their own bank accounts, their own credit card, or their own home! The first act allowing women to own and control land was passed in 1848, but only if her husband had died, not leaving a will, and I think, without a male son! I would rather have the Vikings, who did discover America, to deal with. All they wanted to do was hunt here!
